In 2019, we, Ben (33) and Yasmina (32) (Yaz) Reichstein, took a leap of faith, leaving well paid jobs to take on the real-life challenges and rewards of being small business owners. Ben was formerly a public servant and a sportsman, travelling Australia and England with ambitions to play cricket for Australia, and Yaz a dual degree pharmacist and nutritionist.

It was a on a trip down the east coast of Australia in February 2019 when Yaz was interviewing for pharmacy hospital positions, we stumbled across some beautiful costal caravan parks, ultimately setting off a series of life changing events. Upon returning to Darwin, learning we had a child on the way we decided to contact every caravan park in Darwin and Katherine to see if anyone was interested in selling. A few months later we owned Oasis Tourist Park and on Friday 28 June 2019, we left secure salary jobs and were backing caravans into sites on the busiest day of the season 1 July 2019.

Three months later we welcomed our first daughter ‘Isabelle’ to the world.

A further 3 months into our journey, COVID hit and the borders closed. With only four caravans in the park, a young baby, not eligible for job keeper, and no sign of border restrictions easing, our dream quickly turned into a nightmare.

Somehow, we not only survived, but have thrived and are grateful that we found a way through.

In November 2021, we welcomed our second child, Eleanor to our family, in the same week as we were awarded the Brolga Award for Caravan and Holiday Parks.

Beautiful Eleanor and Isabelle are the transformational improvement we’re most proud of and they are our inspiration to continue to drive for excellence!
